I am celebrating the NUMBER FIVE this year.  I am turning 50 and figure that is a pretty good reason to go a little crazy. I’ve always loved setting goals, and as I’ve gotten older I find that I also like to do things that seem a little extreme (well, extreme for me).

It’s also the year we become empty nesters after 30 years of babies, homework, and bedrooms that could be on an episode of Hoarders.  I am hoping these goals will help keep me from moving with my youngest into her first apartment.

My Crazy Goals

  1. Bike in 5 new states.  For a number of years, I have been working on my goal to bike 50 miles in all 50 states and we knock out a few each year.  Professor Honey-Buns initially just shook his head “no” when I told him we should bike five states; but then he realized those east coast states are really small and has figured out a way for us to do it. That’s one of the many reasons I love him. In July, we will be biking Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut and I can’t wait!

  2. 50 random acts of kindness.  Nothing big, just anonymous things to spread a little love.  If you know someone that could use a little cheer in their life, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do.
  3. 500??  I need help with this one.  I can’t think of anything (at least anything that is doable) for this number.  Any suggestions?
  4. Bike 5,000 miles.  I love to bike, but have not biked more than 2,800 miles in a year before.  So this one is definitely crazy. That is what I love about it.  I will have to be creative, extremely disciplined and willing to sacrifice to make this happen.  If you see me out on the roads this year, give me a thumbs up –  I’ll need the encouragement!

I’ll be posting random updates on Facebook and Instagram if you want to follow along.   Or offer advice.  Or tell me I should take up bowling.
